Army Pfc. Adriana Alvarez, 20, died of injuries sustained while supporting combat operations on February 10, 2010 in Baghdad, Iraq. Pfc. Alvarez was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. According to the Department of Defense press release, the incident was under investigation yet the outcome of the investigation is unknown. According to the Brownsville Herald, Pfc. Alvarez’s sister indicated that she was found with a gunshot wound. An official cause of death could not be determined based on any official statements from the Army or media reports. Although, the Olympian reported “Pfc. Adriana Alvarez, 20, belonged to a military police company at Lewis-McChord and died from injuries of an unexplained nature…in Baghdad, according to a separate report.”

“The U.S. Army policewoman was found Wednesday in Baghdad with a gunshot wound. Military officials were investigating Alvarez’s death, her sister said.”  –Brownsville Herald (February 12, 2010)

“Army PFC Alvarez was assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. She was found dead of a gunshot wound – under investigation. Adriana always had dreams of becoming a police officer so after she graduated in 2008 from San Benito High School in San Benito, Texas, she joined the Army. She knew the best way to pursue a career in law enforcement would be through the military. In August she deployed to Iraq and kept in touch with her family thru e-mails and phone calls. Two days before her death, she spoke to her sister and said everything was fine. Adriana loved photography, classic rock music and proudly served her country.” (Adriana Alvarez, Find A Grave)

Pfc. Michael Jarrett, 20, US Army, died of a non combat-related incident on January 6, 2010 in Balad, Iraq. Pfc. Jarrett was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the 2nd Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade in Illesheim, Germany. According to the Department of Defense, the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

SSG Anton Phillips, 31, US Army, died of a non combat related incident on December 31, 2009 at Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam, Afghanistan. SSG Phillips was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom on behalf of the G Forward Support Company, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Task Force Wildhorse at Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam, Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

“Phillips was found stabbed to death on Dec. 31, 2009 at a base in Mehtar Lam, Afghanistan, a farming area east of Kabul.” -The Gazette

Case Facts:
•How does the military determine who is going to investigate a case? Sometimes it’s CID and other times it’s FBI when the crime occurs overseas.
•The Army CID are in charge of Anton’s unsolved murder case but we haven’t heard a peep out of them since 2013.
•When they say they are investigating a case… what do they mean by that?
•Why don’t they have a website dedicated to unsolved & missing cases?
•Why haven’t they said anything about Anton’s unsolved murder since 2013?
•Why don’t they post regularly about the unsolved murder to generate leads?
•Why don’t they utilize the media to help them solve cases?
•The theme we have discovered is that the soldier on soldier crime and details on federal bases is hidden.
•Most likely, Anton was murdered by another soldier given his locale on a Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan.
•In 2013, Army CID believed someone in the Colorado Springs area had information about Anton’s death.
•Where’s the sense of urgency when the known killer is most likely military and may also be living in our communities pretending to be a good guy?
•The DoD deleted the press release (and the entire site) announcing his murder in 2009 after Vanessa Guillen was murdered.
 
We should all know about this case and all the unsolved military cases. We found out about it by accident while combing through DoD press releases for casualties overseas.
 
PLEASE SHARE TO RAISE AWARENESS, GET JUSTICE FOR ANTON, AND STOP A KILLER FROM ROAMING FREE.

Sgt. Christopher Cooper, 28, US Army, died from a non combat related incident at Camp Scania, Iraq on October 30, 2009. Sgt. Cooper was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry, 172nd Infantry Brigade in Schweinfurt, Germany. Sgt. Cooper also served in the US Marine Corps for four years and completed an Iraq tour during that time. According to the Department of Defense the incident is under investigation.

Avila was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the 1343rd Chemical Company, 151st Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Battalion, 115th Fires Brigade of the Alabama Army National Guard in Fort Payne, Alabama. According to the Department of Defense the incident is under investigation.

Army Private Janelle King, 23, died of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident in Baghdad, Iraq on August 14, 2008. Private King was working as a combat medic stationed at Camp Cropper, a military detainee center near Baghdad International Airport, on her first tour of duty at the time of her death. Pvt. King was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the 115th Combat Support Hospital at Fort Polk, Louisiana. At the time of the Department of Defense press release, the incident was under investigation. The outcome of the investigation and the official cause of death is unknown. Janelle was from Merced, California, she graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, New Jersey in 2003, and attended a culinary arts school in San Francisco, California before joining the Army in May 2007. Janelle’s father served in the active duty Air Force and she grew up as a military dependent.

“The eldest daughter of an Air Force official, King was born in Altus, Okla., and lived in California, Panama and Hawaii before graduating from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt. Holly, N.J., in 2003. Brian King said his daughter’s death makes his own work in the Air Force harder at times.” –Los Angeles Times (October 26, 2008)

Army Spc. Seteria Brown, 22, of Orlando, Florida, died of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident in Sharana, Afghanistan on July 25, 2008. She was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom on behalf of the 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade in Fort Hood, Texas. At the time of the DoD press release, the incident was under investigation. The official cause of death and outcome of the investigation is unknown.

Rumors quickly circulated she committed suicide, but her family and friends don’t believe that. “The Army has not ruled anything yet,” Harris said. “They’re still investigating. They didn’t rule it suicide. They just said she was found in the barracks. The type of weapon she was shot with, a M16, is a tall weapon. It might even be the same height she is. It’s hard to shoot yourself with that. –Tuscaloosa News

Army Pvt. Matthew W. Brown, 20, of Zelienople, Pennsylvania, died May 11, 2008 in Asadabad, Afghanistan from injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident. Pvt. Brown was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom on behalf of the 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. At the time of the incident, the Department of Defense announced Pvt. Brown’s death was under investigation. On January 8, 2019, the family alleged Matthew was murdered in a Vanity Fair publication titled “Leave No Soldier Behind”: The Unsolved Mystery of the Soldier Who Died in the Watchtower.

Navy Petty Officer First Class Cherie Morton, 40, died of a non combat death on April 20, 2008 in Galali, Muharraq, Bahrain. PO1 Morton was a military policeman supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the Naval Security Force, Naval Support Activity Bahrain. At the time of the Department of Defense press release, the incident was under investigation. According to media outlets, PO1 died unexpectedly and the cause of death may be due to an unknown medical cause.

The Stars and Stripes said Morton lived off base and was found in her home. According to the Navy Times, in October 2007, two female sailors were shot and killed on the U.S. naval base in Bahrain. They also said 3,600 personnel work on the American base. While terrorism has been ruled out, according to the Stars and Stripes, the cause of death is under investigation. ~23 ABC
