Navy Commander Alphonso Doss was found dead in his Astoria Hotel room in Orange Park, Florida on February 12, 2014. Both the local civilian authorities and Naval Criminal Investigation Services (NCIS) investigated the circumstances surrounding the homicide. Authorities learned that Alphonso’s estranged wife Yolinda was the mastermind behind the plot to murder her husband. The motive was the one million dollar life insurance policy. Yolinda was having an affair with Anthony Washington, 29, and she manipulate him by using domestic abuse claims as a way to motivate Washington to kill the man who was ‘harming’ her. Washington assaulted, strangled, and stole from Commander Doss claiming he didn’t like the way he treated Yolinda. Washington tried to claim self defense at trial but the jury found him guilty of first degree murder, burglary, and assault. In November 2016, Washington was sentenced to life in prison. Yolinda Doss, 44, and Ronnie Wilson II, 33, do not have trial dates set.

Robert Rheault dies at 87; Green Beret commander accused of murder

The colonel and five of his men were implicated in the death of a suspected South Vietnamese double agent during the Vietnam War. The charges were dropped.

In 1969 Col. Robert Rheault landed a long-coveted assignment in Vietnam: commanding the Green Berets, the daring U.S. Special Forces group championed by President Kennedy and glorified by John Wayne. He had held the job for only three weeks, however, when a scandal broke — one that Time magazine would later call “second only to the My Lai killings.”

Rheault (pronounced Roe) and five of his men were accused of murder and conspiracy in the death of a suspected South Vietnamese double agent. When questioned by his superiors, Rheault said the man was away on a secret mission when in fact his body had already been dumped in the South China Sea.

Fort Carson Green Beret colonel makes rare speech

The reason the Green Berets will seemingly stand still as the rest of the Army endures the convulsions of the post-war Pentagon is that units such as 10th Group have thrived on uncertainty and constant change.

“What will be required of our Green Berets in days ahead has not changed,” Col George Thiebes said.

One fact Thiebes revealed: 10th Group troops have been busy. In the past year, 1,000 of the soldiers have worked in 42 countries – primarily in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. That’s no surprise.

Soldiers from 10th Group were some of the first Americans in the 2003 attack on Iraq. The Fort Carson troops advised the Kurds in northern Iraq that played a key role in the defeat of Saddam Hussein.

Military misconduct cases worry Pentagon brass

Recent allegations against generals and admirals create concern about ethical and moral shortcomings among senior officers.

WASHINGTON — A flood of misconduct cases involving generals and admirals has created deep concern at the Pentagon about ethical and moral shortcomings among senior military officers and prompted new steps to tighten rules, increase inspections and weed out offenders, officials said.

The most recent cases — a Navy admiral under investigation for using counterfeit gambling chips and an Air Force general in charge of nuclear-tipped missiles relieved for drunkenness off duty — follow a long list of officer wrongdoing over the last year. The offenses include ethical lapses and allegations of criminal violations, including sexual assault.

Senior officers who have examined the problem insist that no evidence suggests widespread misconduct among the nearly 1,000 generals and admirals in the armed forces. The number of cases where allegations of misconduct are substantiated remains low and offenders are punished when identified, they say.

Carlsbad police say 55-year-old Jeffrey Barton was taken into custody late Thursday and was booked for investigation of sexual assault. Barton was responsible for academic and residential programs at the Army and Navy Academy, a private college-prep academy that has more than 300 male cadets in grades seven through 12. He resigned earlier this year.

Wilkerson: Demotion, ouster politically motivated

Lt. Col. James Wilkerson, the former Aviano Air Base, Italy, inspector general whose overturned sexual assault conviction triggered calls for change to long-standing military law, called his forced retirement and demotion to major an unfair and politically motivated decision.

“I emphatically disagree with [the] decision and believe my service record provides clear proof that I honorably served in the rank of lieutenant colonel, so much that I was promoted to colonel,” Wilkerson said in a statement to Air Force Times.

It is the first time Wilkerson has spoken publicly about his case.
