Fred Trayer’s wife Jennifer was charged with his murder.
Jennifer Trayers was found guilty of second degree murder in 2012.
Jennifer was sentenced to 16 years to life in a California state prison.

Daniel Wozniak was convicted of shooting and killing Army veteran Sam Herr on May 21, 2010 in Los Alamitos, California. Daniel Wozniak shot Sam Herr in the back of the head twice and decapitated him for the money in his bank account; he needed some cash to pay for his upcoming wedding. Daniel Wozniak was convicted of the pre-meditated murder of Juri ‘Julie’ Kibuishi and Sam Herr and sentenced to death in 2015.

Coast Guard veteran Jeffrey Wheatley was discovered dead in what appeared to be a house fire in his Stockton, California home on April 7, 2010. After a closer examination, investigators learned that Jeffrey was shot, stabbed, and burned alive. The motive appeared to be revenge. Roommate Valerie Nessler claims Jeffrey admitted to killing someone in 1994 which was the same year her friend Robert Turner’s brother was murdered. Valerie Nessler was found guilty of arson and first degree murder for her role and sentenced to 26 years to life in prison. Robert Turner was found guilty of arson and first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. And Allen Periman was found guilty of second degree murder for his role in the homicide.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Joshua Birchfield, 24, died of injuries sustained in an insider attack on February 19, 2010 in Farah Province, Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Birchfield was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom on behalf of the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, California. According to the Department of Defense, this incident is under investigation.

[The NCIS report] “stated that an Afghan court convicted the contractor who shot Birchfield and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. The name of the killer, working as a guard for a construction company, was redacted. He opened fire after spotting a group of men with guns who turned out to be US Marines.” -The Telegraph

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Stacy Dryden, 22, died of injuries sustained in a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq on October 19, 2008. Lance Cpl. Dryden was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group in Camp Pendleton, California. The Department of Defense announced that the incident was under investigation at the time of the press release. Media reports suggested that Stacy died of a suspected head injury she sustained during a wrestling match with a fellow Marine. In one report, a Marine public affairs officer stated that her manner of death has been ruled a homicide, but no wrongdoing was found and no charges were filed. The family expressed their frustration with the investigation of the murder of Stacy and additionally feel that no one was held accountable in an effort to protect the reputation of the Corps.

“They circle the wagons,” she says about how the military handled Maria’s murder and other female soldier deaths. “They are trying to protect their reputation.” And the military is protecting its reputation while struggling to recruit soldiers for an all-volunteer military. –City Beat (March 27, 2012)

Jan & Quiana Pietrzak (2008) — Sgt. Jan Pietrzak, US Marine Corps, and Quiana Jenkins-Pietrzak

Honoring Marine Sgt. Jan Pietrzak and his wife, Quiana Jenkins-Pietrzak, both were slain Oct. 15, 2008. Four fellow USMC members are charged with murder under special circumstances; all face the death penalty.
