Fort Stewart Army Sgt. Shaquille Craig, 24, was charged with murdering two of his fellow Army members, Spc. Marquez Brown, 23, and Pvt. Malika Jackson, 21, in Hinesville, Georgia. An anonymous tip led to the discovery of their bodies on March 5, 2017. Sgt. Craig stands accused of shooting to death both Spc. Brown and Pvt. Jackson, one of them had a large knife in their throat. Hinesville Police Department report that Sgt. Craig has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder.

Honoring Spc Hunter Kelly, US Army, who was found dead at another’s soldier’s home near Fort Stewart, Georgia on August 29, 2015. Peter Petri, also a US Army soldier, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct. Ryan Brown, another US Army soldier was also arrested for obstruction of a law enforcement officer. This case is under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Long County Sheriff’s Office. Military officials are cooperating.

Sophie Christine Lisa Champoux, 25, Fort Stewart, GA died September 30, 2011. She was born July 5, 1986 in Orlando daughter of Denis Jean Joseph Champoux & Suzette Perkins Champoux. She was a former Clermont resident & former member of Clermont Bible Church. In 2006 she relocated to New Jersey & currently was a Sergeant in the US Army stationed at Fort Stewart.

Surviving is her mother Suzette Champoux of Clermont; father Denis Champoux, Centennial, CO; brothers Ian Champoux, Orlando & Noah Champoux, Winter Park & paternal grandparents Paul & Celine Champoux, Dover, FL.

Spc. Miranda Nichols, US Army

Army Specialist Miranda Nichols, 28, was shot and killed outside of her mother’s home in Vidalia, Georgia two days after Thanksgiving on November 24, 2012. It is believed that her boyfriend of six months Army Specialist Samuel Tellu shot Miranda in an apparent domestic dispute. After Tellu shot Miranda, he jumped in his vehicle and took off. Tellu was later found in his vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound to his head. Tellu was assigned to the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd ID, as a petroleum specialist. Nichols served in the 3rd ID and the Georgia Army National Guard. They had both deployed overseas. The Fort Stewart Criminal Investigation Division (CID) informed the public they were assisting local authorities with the apparent murder-suicide investigation.

Army Spc. Mary Jaenichen, Died of a Non-Combat Related Injury in Iraq; Official Cause of Death Unknown (2008)

Army Spc. Mary Jaenichen, 20, died of a non-combat related injury on May 9, 2008 in Iskandariyah, Iraq. Spc. Jaenichen was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on behalf of the Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. At the time of the Department of Defense press release, the incident was under investigation. The official cause of death is unknown.

The 2006 graduate had signed up for the Army Reserve at age 17 with the promise of a military-funded college education. She attended boot camp between her junior and senior years. At the time of her death, she was assigned to the Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga. Her father, Alfred Alan “Jay” Jaenichen of Santa Ana, who recently retired as a Marine master sergeant, said she was serving as a military police officer at a “detainee holding area” — a prison. ~LA Times
