Fort Meade Army Soldier Caleb Barnes Stabbed Cheryl Silvonek to Death; Plead Guilty to First Degree Murder, Sentenced to Life in Prison (2015)

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 3.44.33 PM

Caleb Barnes, US Army

Caleb Barnes, 20, US Army, of Fort Meade, Maryland admitted guilt in the stabbing death of Cheryl Silvonek in her car on March 15, 2015. Lehigh County prosecutor’s charged Barnes and his 14 year old girlfriend Jamie Silvonek with the crime. Barnes was charged specifically with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and statutory sexual assault. He stood accused of killing his underage girlfriend’s mother who had expressed disappointment with the relationship and then burning and burying her body in eastern Pennsylvania. Caleb Barnes and Jamie Silvonek plead guilty to the homicide; Jamie Silvonek showed some remorse and apologized to the court yet Caleb Barnes expressed zero remorse. Barnes was sentenced to life in state prison plus 22-44 years. The judge accused him of  “blindsiding a 54 year old woman by stabbing her to death in a cowardly attempt to conceal his illegal sexual relationship with her 14-year-old daughter.”

Fort Carson Army Soldiers Noel Acevedo-Mercado and John Donathan Accused of Raping Colorado Teen; Donathan Died Just Weeks Before Trial (2014)

Fort Carson Army soldiers Spc. Noel Acevedo-Mercado, 21, and Pfc. John Donathan, 20, were charged with the rape of a 17-year-old girl on October 4, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Prosecutors alleged the pair met the girl at a party on Gold Camp Road and later attacked her in a bedroom of her home. According to an arrest affidavit, the girl said both men held her down during the assault and changed positions when one of them said “switch.” Court records indicated both Acevedo-Mercado and Donathan were freed on $50,000 bail. Three weeks before John Donathan was due to stand trial, an obituary indicated he died on March 15, 2015. The cause of death was not specified and the local coroner’s office said they were not notified. Acevedo-Mercado was scheduled for a July 12, 2015 trial on three counts of sexual assault and if convicted, Acevedo-Mercado could face up to 24 years in prison. Reports indicated that it was most likely that Acevedo-Mercado would agree to a plea agreement but no further details are available at this time.

Army Veteran & Pastor Donald Jung Arrested & Charged with Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child in Illinois; Pleaded Not Guilty (2013)

Screen Shot 2018-01-28 at 6.24.07 PM

Donald Jung, Army Veteran, Illinois

Army veteran and pastor Reverend Donald Jung, 59, was held on $750,000 bond after being arrested and charged on February 23, 2013 with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Jung denied charges he sexually assaulted a nine year old girl but admitted to police he raped a girl 22 years ago while serving in the Army. Both victims were related to him. Jung’s attorney said the pastor was in the Army for 18 years and has no criminal history. Prosecutors sought Jung’s military records after they learned he was court martialed for child sexual assault. Jung pleaded not guilty and the status of his trial or any outcomes are unknown as of January 28, 2017.

“Prosecutors say he had sex with the girl and that he was court martialed in the Army 22 years ago for having sex with a 10-year-old.” –ABC7 Chicago

Retired Air Force Sergeant Wilfred ‘Bill’ Morrisey Found Guilty of Murdering 9 Year Old Child in Montana; Sentenced to Life in Prison with No Eligibility for Parole (August 2, 1988)

screen-shot-2016-12-31-at-4-16-31-pm

Wilfred ‘Bill’ Morrisey, U.S. Air Force Retired

On August 2, 1988, nine year old Dolana Clark vanished from Great Falls, Montana without a trace. A year later, a hunter found Dolana’s remains in the Little Belt Mountains southeast of Great Falls. She died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Retired Air Force Sergeant Wilfred “Bill” Morrisey lived a couple of blocks from the Clark residence and had a close relationship with the family during the years preceding Dolana’s disappearance. Police considered Morrisey a person of interest but he repeatedly denied any involvement. A few months later, Morrisey left Great Falls and eventually settled in Colorado. Dolana Clark’s disappearance and homicide case went cold.

Four years later in 2002, the Great Falls Police Department renewed the investigation into Dolana’s death. Detectives reviewed the case file including statements Morrisey had given back in 1988 and found inconsistencies. This peaked a renewed interest in Wilfred Morrisey. After an investigation, detectives developed the theory that Dolana went to Morrisey’s house the evening of August 2, 1988 after her father refused to give her money to purchase a Siamese cat on layaway at a local pet store. Investigators deduced that Dolana went to Bill and asked for money to purchase the cat. They believe Morrisey took advantage of this opportunity. Police suspected that Morrisey most likely sexually abused Dolana in exchange for the money, hit her, and realized he went too far.

Wilfred Morrisey most likely killed young Dolana Clark in an effort to hide his crimes. Police believe he placed Dolana’s body in the trunk of his vehicle and then joined family members in searching for Dolana but refused to use either of his vehicles in the search. After the search, he drove up to the mountains where he dumped her body in a remote location. Detectives learned from a friend of Bill’s that he did in fact own a gun of the same caliber used in the death of Dolana. They also learned that Bill went to the pet store and purchased the Siamese cat that Dolana wanted and kept the cat as his own. The State of Montana charged Wilfred Morrisey on September 4, 2002 with deliberate homicide. In 2005, a jury found Morrisey guilty and sentenced him to life in prison with no eligibility for parole.
